Dodgeball is one of the funniest team sports around, no question. If you remember the utterly brilliant game from your school days: the thrills, the bruises (if your PE teachers were harsh and gave you proper footballs instead of soft balls), and the hysterical laughter, then you'll have some idea of what you're in for.
If you're not quite sure what dodgeball is about, but you like the idea of hurling objects at your pals, then here's the basics…
The aim of the game is to hit the opposing team with the ball. Any player that is hit sits out the rest of that round until all the members of one team are out. You can also catch balls that are thrown at your group from the opposing team, before they bounce, and chuck them back at your enemies like a dodgeball ninja.
One of the many factors that make this game stand above the rest is that even when you're caught out, you can get back in! Because, let's face it, elimination games suck. They're only fun for the people who get to stay on the court, while the people on the edge just wait it out and sulk. Dodgeball allows players to bring a member of their team back in by catching a ball that's thrown by their opponents. It really is the ultimate team sport!
You'll be relying on quick action, strong teamwork, good aim, and super-fast reactions. It's basically war, with softballs, bizarre team names, gym kits and the chance to resurrect. If you do get battered with a few balls, you should count yourselves lucky…
The game dates back over 1,000 years when dodgeball used to be played with large rocks. The game originally being called "Rock on thy Headeth". Or we could be completely making that up as we know absolutely nothing about the origins of the sport, but wanted to make it sound a little more intellectual than just throwing balls at your friends' heads. But that really is all the fun!
